Research Outcomes

  1. Dictionary of Martyrs: India’s Freedom Struggle (1857-1947)

This research project was implemented and completed by ICHR and funded by Ministry of Culture, Government of India. The aim of the project was to compile a ‘National Register of Martyrs’ who sacrificed their lives in quest of freedom from the British rule. Under this project, the following volumes have been prepared which contain biographical sketches of about 13,000 martyrs of India’s freedom movement:

 

  •  Volume 1, Parts I & II covering Delhi, Haryana, Punjab and Himachal Pradesh have been published in the years 2011 and 2012 respectively.
  •   Volume 2, Parts I & II containing information on the martyrs of Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Madhya Pradesh, Chattisgarh, Rajasthan and J&K have been published in the year 2013.
  • Volume 3 covering Gujarat, Maharashtra and Sind has been published in the year 2014.
  • Volume 4 covering Bengal, Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, Assam and North-Eastern Hill States is under process of publication.
  • Volume 5 covering Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Karnataka, Kerala and Tamil Nadu is  under the process of publication.

 

  1. Translation of Dutch Sources, 1617-30

 

  • First two volumes covering the period 1617-27 have been published during the years 2009-11.
  • Volume for the years 1628-29 has been completed and found satisfactory by the Expert.
  • Work on volume for the year 1629-30 is under collection & compilation of documents.

 

  1.  Documents on Economic History During the British Rule in Northern and Western India in the Late Nineteenth Century: Quality of Life

Economic History of India during the British Rule in India: Northern India, Volume 1, Part I 1860s to 1870s, has been finalized by the editors and submitted to the ICHR in August 2014. Part-II of vol.1 has also been completed by the editors and presented before the monitoring committee meeting of the project held on 07.04.2016. Further, the editors requested to allow them to start working on the volume on Western India. The committee approved the project duration up to 30 months.

 

  1. Dictionary of Social, Economic and Administrative terms in Indian Inscriptions

 

  • South Indian Inscriptions, volume I covering A-D alphabets (1503 terms) has been published in December, 2011.
  • South Indian Inscriptions, volume II covering E-L alphabets is under progress
  • North Indian Inscriptions, volume I (A-D alphabets) which include about 1600 terms of letters A-D is being finalized.
  • Persian Inscriptions, the substantial data collection has been made by the editor.
